Installing CentOS 8.1 in VMware Workstation 15 Pro

Step by step of installing Basic Web Server using CentOS 8.1 VM inside VMware Workstation 15 Pro.
- Download the ISO image of CentOS 8.1
- Go to official CentOS download website
- Choose the “CentOS Linux DVD ISO”
- You will be redirected to the ISO images download link page
- You will be given some mirror links to choose
- Choose any mirror that works for you
- Download the file “CentOS-8.1.1911-x86_64-dvd1.iso” and save it on your local Windows machine
- Open your WMware Workstation and create New virtual Machine
- File > New Virtual Machine… (or Ctrl + N)
- New Virtual Machine Wizard will appear, choose Typical type of configuration
- Choose “I will install the operating system later.”
- This will avoid the use of WMware Easy Install
- This will give us ability to select what type of server we want to install
- In this case, we want to install Basic Web Server (without GUI)
- If you use Easy install
- After the virtual machine is created, the guest operating system installation is automated and VMware Tools is installed
- Server type will be automatic, and it will be Basic Server with GUI
- This will avoid the use of WMware Easy Install
- Select a Guest Operating System
- Guest OS: Linux
- Version: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 64-bit (the closest match with our image)
- Name the Virtual Machine
- Specify Disk Capacity
- Review your settings and finish the wizard
- Open the setting of the newly created Virtual Machine
- Set the hardware setting to suit your requirement and connect the CentOS 8.1 ISO image
- Memory, Processors, Hard Disk, and Network Adapter are depend on your needs and environment
- CD/DVD (SATA)
- Connected at power on
- Use ISO Image file: <file directory>\CentOS-8.1.1911-x86_64-dvd1.iso
- Power On the Virtual Machine
- Install CentOS Linux 8
- Choose English (United States) as a language to use during installation process
- Review the installation summary and customize it
- Select the appropriate Time & Date setting
- Select the software to install
- Base Environment: Server
- Additional software: Basic Web Server
- Select the disk that we would like to install to
- Configure the Network and Host Name
- Click “Configure” to configure the Ethernet interface
- Select IPv4 Settings
- Address: 192.168.200.110/24
- Gateway: 192.168.200.1
- DNS server: 8.8.8.8
- Turn On the Ethernet interface and configure Host Name
- Begin Installation
- Installation process is running
- Set the Root Password
- Continue waiting for the installation process to be finished
- Once finished, click “Reboot”
- CentOS is up and ready to be used
- Login with your root
- Clean up your Virtual Machine settings
- Shut Down the VM and remove the CD/DVD connection
